This is actually Byzantine weave, but even better... it's three-dimensional! Various colors and mixed metals can be incorporated into this design to really impress them all. The instructions also show how to adapt this form into diamond-shaped earrings.
Prerequisite: Proficiency in at least 3 chainmaille weaves.
