To answer our TotW, please log into Twitter.com and send a message to @BlueBuddhaBtq. We collect your replies Monday through Saturday, and post our favorites (about 10-15 responses) the following week. We usually run 1-2 tweets of the week per month.
Tweet of the Week is on hold because we're busy bagging rings for your orders. (Who knew the start of 2010 would be so busy?) Once we're caught up, we'll return with some fun questions!
Do you make chainmaille (or other crafty things) for your pets?
9 November 2009
We're expecting dog and cat collars...but there's enough creative folk on here that perhaps you've come up with something completely unexpected!
What's your favorite halloween costume? (Either something you've actually been, or a costume that you've seen and admired.)

@crenewilsonMy favorite was when my daughter took her very pretty poodle skirt custom and made it a zombie '50's girl..very ghoulish.
Melanie J: My seven year old is going as Medusa, came up with it on her own.
And finally, since a couple of you requested it....a pic of Rebeca's favorite costume from years ago: Pat!

Do you have tattoos? How many? What of?
14 September 2009
Rebeca is planning on getting a Captive Zen tattoo on her wrist sometime in the next year. It'll be her first chainmaille tattoo. She has five others, and they are all Aerosmith related. It got us thinkin' — what tattoos do you have?
@katianajazz
I have 2 tats, Dolphin on my left collar bone and butterfly on my inner right wrist, soon to have a byz chain on my ankle :-)
@the_fox_within

Durga S:
I've got a Sufi heart (heart with wings) between my shoulder blades.
What do you listen to or watch while you make maille?
1 September 2009
Once upon a time, Rebeca thought she could become the smartest person on the world by listening to textbooks on tape and learning languages while she mailled. However, she quickly realized that her brain was not very good at processing complex information while mailling. So she turned to fiction books, NPR and a variety of music—from Aerosmith to punk rock to hip-hop and blues. What do YOU listen to (or watch on TV) while you maille?
@LadyJhia
When I maille I listen to 80's Hair bands or leave the history or national geographic channel on or listen to the neighbors pool.
@CelticFawn
When I maille, i listen and/or watch Celtic Thunder
@joia
I love listening to Niyaz (http://www.niyazmusic.com) while mailleing or I watch West Wing DVDs, but it's pretty distracting.
@char_anderson
watch shows I have Tiovoed when I work. Listening to books on tape makes me sleepy. Like a kid having bedtime stories!
@redfoxjewelry
I love to listen to #classic_rock of course. There is nothing else like it!
@frawgz_dezignz
any of my music which is really anything that strikes my mood - of late - a friend & fellow mailler's voice...
@leayntab
I like to watch DVDs (Charmed, Scrubs) and TLC (What Not To Wear Junkie).
@aligroen
I watch TV while I maille. Somtimes it is whatever is on TV or a movie. Not too picky on exactly what is on.
What are your favorite crafty puns?
10 August 2009
As femaillers, we know that maille puns are everywhere. As well as straight-up goofs, like the time Rebeca wrote on her to-do list: "Stamp and maille bills" Oops. We could use a good chuckle, and you didn't disappoint. The comments on Facebook were hilarious. Talia, you rock!
Talia S:
"Yeah, I'd like a quarter ounce of green. And could you break that into two seperate baggies for me?"
Amy K:
Oh, the check is in the maille; "Give me a ring sometime"; "Join our 'emaille' list for upcoming events"......
Kim H:
Or the time my friend said.."Is that ring made for that.." Yes..they come in all different colors and sizes..and I didn't realize he meant the jumpr ringer ring I was wearing.. lol
Talia S:
Last year I made husband a really nice Argentium Sterling Half Persian 4in1 bracelet. For months he wondered if the other half was Domestic or what.
Blue Buddha Boutique:
Hee, hee. You have succeeded in making us chuckle. :-)
Talia S:
I told my husband I thought it was kind of cool that other people got a kick out of his bracelet misunderstanding, and I think he was a little embarrassed. He said I should have asked him about it first, cuz really, it's nobody's byz but his own. :)
Blue Buddha Boutique:
*groan...smirk*
Talia S
: Yeah, I thought that one would get more groans than chuckles, but I really had to share anyway, otherwise I wouldn't have felt like I had a good closure.
Blue Buddha Boutique:
Oh, man, you're good Talia. Are you always this punny? (Or just particularly inspired because of the topic?)
Talia S: I save my puns for special occasions (thankfully, I'm sure). But sometimes ya just gotta say, "What the Helm!"
What's the ultimate chainmaille project you've been dreaming of?
6 July 2009
Rebeca dreams about a medival dress out of maille, and Vanessa is dying to make a scale skirt. We wanted to know what are some of the projects you've been wanting to make.
@LadyJhia My ultimate chainmaille project would be a corset with satin skirt that has details made from chain and India style hair clips n jewelry.
@CandTDesigns Done, or want to do? Done=scale top. To do=Titanium Baseball cap
@tollykit I am dreaming of making a eupoean 6 in 1 chainmaille shirt.
@ElizabethMD I'm totally making a micromail vest for my hubby~. I only just started with the v of the neck done and about 4 rows on either side done. it's gonna be weighty!
@Carrie_Eve I'm thinking of making a little chainmaille 'dress' for a My Little Pony (have a bunch of B22 ALUM's to use).
What books/magazines are you reading now?
22 June 2009
Rebeca just finished reading Typhoid Mary by Anthony Bourdain (definitely inspired by the fact that her sweetie just got over whooping cough). She read it about 8 years ago, but wanted a refresher! Additionally, she's knee deep in her usual stash of business magazines: Entreprenuer, Inc., Fast Company and Costco Connection.
@char_anderson
I am reading Age is Just a Number by Olympic swimmer Dara Torres. Magazines: dozens! #squarespace
@joia
Re-reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series again in prep for the new book in Sept. Also, starting "The Host" by S.Meyer.
@leayntab
Just finished "Fool" by Christopher Moore (Lots of "shagging" in that one); Magazine: Beadwork
@IcedAdornments
I'm reading Dragonfly in Amber, which is book 2 in the Outlander series and Silver Threads by @jeannius
@ArmoredHearts
Rune Play by Ralph Blum, 2 refresh my memory on Rune Casting - a form of Norse divining - I'm casting @ a July fundraiser
@Carrie_Eve
Reading World War Z and papers on antioxidant damage (very entertaining, I know :P )
Lydia's Filly
I'm actually reading several books right now.
- Start Where You Are by Chris Gardner
- The Love Dare by Kendrick
- The New Rules of Marriage by Terrence Real
My fiance and I are planning our wedding, and we want to know as much about each other, and how to meet each other's needs before we get married.
What are your favorite weaves?
15 June 2009
When Rebeca first started making maille, there were just under 200 documented weaves. Now there are more than 900. Her favorites are Dragonscale, European 4-in-1 and Japanese 12-in-2. Oldies, but goodies! Kat likes anything Celtic and right now she is really digging Captive Turkish. Which are your favorites?
The response we liked best, because it totally made us crack up:
by Janine Dolley: Favorite???????????? You mean THIS WEEK???
@SpinalFusion don't have one yet. my friend is oging to show me beginning chainmaille soo. i hope to conquer it!
@MBOI Def Byzantine only because it is so versatile and and be incorporated into completely different looks.
@char_anderson
My favorite weaves are Jens Pind, Byzantine variations & the one coming out in SBS Wire magazine using your rings.
Leanyn Tabili
I love them all, but I like making Dragonscale the most because it's challenging and makes a statement on your wrist. For therapy though, I tend to make lengths (and variations) of Byzantine.
Nancy Anderson:
Japanese flowers for sure.
Chris Oliver Bettini:
Hmmm... that's a tough one. I'd say it's a tie between Turkish Orbital, GSG, Elf, Viperscale or Dragonscale. I love them all! Blue Buddha even made some custom rings for me so I could do a smaller Turkish Orbital. It was totally fab!!
Kris Anstrats:
Helm chain is my new favorite.
Frann Ramales:
I like to look at Dragonscale and dream I can actually make it properly while I make Euro 4 in 1. I have a very active imagination. I also like Byz variations in Earrings and pendants. Viper scale would make my head explode I'm sure.
Deb Groskurth:
will always love Euro 4 in 1- but somehow it always turns into roundmaille when I make it- lol!
What's the best advice you've gotten from a fellow artist?
18 May 2009
Rebeca's favorite advice came from a few different veteran maillers early in her chainmaille career. They told her: "Don't expect to make any money with chainmaille!" The desire to prove them wrong was probably the best motivation ever.
@tollykit Best advice: accept a compliment as if you actually deserve it.
@BisouBisouBeads Pictures, pictures pictures! Would someone buy something at a shop w/o seeing it? No way! Pics get your items sold!
@ArmoredHearts If this weave is giving you trouble, set it aside and come back to it later' Saved holes in my walls from plier throwing!
@chainmaille best advice is from my wife when she says thats ugly start over and I say yes dear
@IcedAdornments Best advice I have ever seen... Keep Calm and Carry On.
Good advice, indeed, @IcedAdornments. In fact, that very day we were so busy and crazed here at the studio, we decided the best way to keep calm and refocus, would be to shut down the office for 10 minutes and take a walk around the block. It definitely felt great!
What's your favorite chainmaille disaster?
11 May 2009
Chainmaille disasters are no stranger to Rebeca and the folks at Blue Buddha. We've posted a few photos of rings-snagging on socks, dropped rings and dice bags gone wrong on our page our on Facebook. We figured we weren't along, and wanted to find out about your chainmaille disasters.
@BevsJewelry My funniest chain maille disaster was teaching a class with the wrong size rings Worked out OK but looked different. They liked the results
@char_anderson The time I dropped a tray of 6 sizes (10K) of rings on stairs, the tin containers flew open & I spent 2 weeks sorting rings.
@IcedAdornments Favorite disaster? Any time one of the toddlers gets into the rings and works in progress. I spend days picking rings up.
Denise Stillwell:
c20 and b20 aluminum rings are mixed in my house for some reason.....
Shuku Li:
When I first discovered there was a thing called chainmaille, I decided to make a 4-in-1 bracelet. No one had told me that you open jump rings with -pliers-, a pair of them. I opened all those jump rings with my fingers, with occasional use of a ruler. Every single darned one of them. Man, I felt stupid several months later when someone actually told me HOW to open jump rings properly...(I also dropped the bracelet so I don't even have it any more.)
Emily Ramsey:
I once ordered some closed jump rings by mistake. Spent about 20 minutes fighting to try to open one while I was feeling sick and watching some tv... boy did I feel silly when I finally looked down and realized what I was trying to do =P
What are your dreams? Career, travel, creative, personal...any or all of the above.
4 May 2009
We all have dreams, right? Rebeca feels like she's living her dream by making a living doing something she loves. But she would still love to be able to work a little less and have time to travel the world. Most appealing are Ghana, India and really obscure places like Siberia.
@heartdancer Dreams include getting to know the grandbabies better and be the best gramma possible...br /> @char_andersonMy dreams include my art on a magazine cover, travelling more, being healthy & fit, and having a great relationship with DH.
@kunoichi06y dream is to be able to make a living w/ my chainmaille. Any hints? :)
@RabbitDance To learn blacksmithing, have a brick-and-mortar shop, and for my husband's writing to do well
@MikiSunshine More like nightmares I dream of my jewelry becoming so popular I can't keep up with demand. That'll be the day. LOL
@KaliButterfly Dreams? To be a successful artist, musician and writer/theorist. I have big plans. :)
@jennadei Still do what I love but not worry about money anymore.
What other creative things do you do beside make chainmaille?
20 April 2009
Though Rebeca's main passion is chainmailling, she dabbles in baking bread and making chocolate truffles (as some of you may know, if you've found those easter eggs on our site). Vanessa is not into baking, but she loves beadwork and is also quite handy with sewing and knitting & crochet. Kat does wirework and mosaics. We also have to mention Jenna, who is all over the place—mostly she's a tap dancer, but she also does photography and is an art teacher. We thought we'd find out what your other creative interests are, and as expected, ya'll are definitely one creative bunch!
@craftysoprano I sew, crochet, knit, rubberstamp/emboss, cross stitch, paint, repair just about anything around the house, garden, etc.
@mamatsiao I do so many things, too many "irons in the fire"...porcelain painting, quilting, needlework, knitting, tatting.
@MGChains Besides chainmaille I do graphic design. Just got into grad school for it too. Hopefully the one will help pay for the other!
@joia Other than beaded jewelry, I make mead (12 gal in process @home now) and jams/jellies. Strawberry Balsamic Jam this week.
@WG2009 Besides chainmaille i make terrible music! Does that count?
@youvegotmailleWirework, bead weaving, crochet, calligraphy, photography, paint fantasy miniatures, Renaissance dancing, & more.
@AthenasArmoury I make my own personal care & cleaning products, I'm teaching myself to sew & embroider, I make candles, fool around with knotwork, I draw, collage, I'm learning to woodburn, I make beaded & wirewrapped jewelery; guess that's it for now.
@chainamaille Other than maille sometimes I work, and I also work, then i try to work and after that I work some more then sleep
@mommyknits Aside from chainmailling, I do all kinds of fibre arts including handspinning my own yarn.
@BevsJewelry I change to Kumihimo. Nice techinque, relaxing with beautiful results.
@kunoichi06 I also write in my spare time. I enjoy writing fiction, mostly medieval or urban fantasy.
Where do you do most of your chainmailling?
13 April 2009
Wow—so many replies to this. The most popular response was "on the sofa in front of the TV", though we probably saw that comin'! Lots of cats mentioned, too. (How did you guys know we like cats? *grin*)
We think @elenaadams had the most relaxing answer for summer weaving ever. Or maybe we're just getting antsy for warm weather after a long winter! Sorry we don't have room to post all the reponses; hope you enjoy our favorites!
@elenaadams
At my desk with the tv on during evenings and winter, or by the pool on a bead board with a cocktail in the summer.
@UtopiaArmoury
Is everywhere an answer? Mostly on the couch watching TV, or at a diner, marathon-mailling for hours with bottomless coffee.
@IcedAdornments I do most my maille work here at my computer desk. Easy access to tuts and inspirational pics. Plus, I can Twitter. ;)
@MBOI on the couch with my other half. It is a great way end the day
@MikiSunshine I chainmaille in my studio. Feet on the poof. Sun streaming thru the window. Cat on lap. Judge David Young on TV. LOL
@AthenasArmoury
I maille mostly at my bench, but also at my desk at work and backstage at shows that I'm working.
See more responses on the Blue Buddha page on Facebook, including more TV watching, more cats, an airport chainmailler, and a gal who just bought an exercise ball to sit on while working!
What inspires you to create?
6 April 2009
Just about anything can be inspiring to an artist. Rebeca looks at the world through the eyes of a chainmaille fanatic. Seriously, she tries to imagine how to construct everything out of jump rings, or she "sees" weaves on wallpaper, in clouds, everywhere. It's almost kind of sick sometimes. ;-P But mainly, her inspiration is architecture, science (especially cosmology/quantum physics) and geometry. What's yours?
@behindthepaint Nature and different colors inspire me. Also my family wanting different projects
@AthenasArmoury I'm inspired by strong, confident, empowering women who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
@char_anderson Almost anything: books, magazines, fashion, nature, photographs, color combinations, architecture, Inspiration is everywhere!
People find out about chainmaille through all sorts of ways: word-of-mouth, classes, movies with maille.... This week, we want to know how YOU got started. What made you decide to pick up those pliers and link your first few jump rings?
@behindthepaint I saw a guy on the beach making a purse. My husband gave me the rings I needed to get hooked completely. He's spoiled too :P
@joia SCA - can't do RenFaire & not be drawn to chainmaille. Beading isn't enough of an addiction, gotta add little rings too!
@char_anderson I picked up a book and was immediately hooked. It is like knitting, my other love, one stitch at a time, one ring at a time.
@kunoichi06 I'm a lover of all things medieval. When a friend started a chainmaille club in college I became the VP and never looked back
@MBOI got obsesed watching a mailler at a faire and HAD to try it. Now I am hooked one ring at a time.
@Avionmaille
bought a piece many years ago ago at a ren faire and then bought one from Redpanda...decided to try it and bam...hooked!!!
@IKowDesigns I saw my first maille piece in a medieval store in Helen, GA. I fell in love and was determined to learn how to make it.
@ChainedStrange Friend of mine brought a 4-1 euro inlay piece someone had made for him and I just had to try it! Best addiction ever
@chainmaillelady
I saw Spider on television and she was demoing the lacy Japanese 12 in 2 bracelet. I ordered the kit. That was 4 years ago!
@MaryCooper2
I got into chainmaille because of Rebecca! I saw her how-to in Wire Jewelry mag and I was hooked! Thanks Rebecca!
@silverdaisy13
I worked in pmc, friend dared me to do better job than copper maille she'd bought. She bought silver one I made!
@TalynDraconmore
Curiosity. I was making 2-in-1 already, and a friend showed me a better way. I've been an addict ever since.
@jwunterhttp://zebeth.com a webcomic i frequent has a chainmaille section. he got me interested, a few rings got me hooked, almost 4 weeks now.
What's the weirdest place you've ever found a jump ring?
23 March 2009
Our debut TotW!
We find random jump rings everywhere in our studio and home, and we're betting you do, too!
