sterling jump rings Here are stats and recommended weaves for the Base Metal rings. We're working on filling in the gaps on the chart. In the meantime, if you need stats for a particular ring size, just let us know. NOTE: Different gauge systems are used for different metals, so H18 SILV does NOT equal H18 in base metals. (Learn more in the Ring Sizes article in FAQ.)

Ring Names:
Letter = Inner Diameter
Number = Wire Gauge

Wire Gauges Conversions
24g = 0.5 mm (0.021")
22g = 0.6 mm (0.025")
20g ALUM = 0.76 mm (0.03")
20g all other metals = 0.8 mm (0.032")
18g ALUM = 1.15 mm (0.045")
18g all other metals = 1.22 mm (0.048")
16g = 1.6 mm (0.062")

Please note! Stats listed in parenthesis are older and may or may not match current stats. Certain ARs may change, as we move toward standardizing our sizes. Our goal is for metals within a size to have as close an AR as possible to one another, despite springback and slightly different wire gauges for different metals. (For more, please see the March 25 entry in the supplies updates section.) The 20g ALUM is an exception; it will always have higher ARs than other 20g, because the wire diameter is slightly smaller.

  • Euro 4-1 -- If you have the dedication to make a patch of Euro 4-1 with these size rings, I highly recommend it. Very smooth and fabric-like.
  • Byzantine (2 connectors)
  • Turkish Round

  • Doubled Japanese 6-1 (12-2), with F20 — Note that this is tight in copper and jewelry brass; it works well for 2-rows and japanese flowers (for wider pieces, use B22 & F20, or B20 & G20)
  • Jens Pind for some metals —possible with the steel rings, but the AR is just a tad too loose, so with time, some of the rings pop out of place. Jens Pind is very stiff with the Copper rings.
  • These rings also come in handy for jewelry repair that includes small chains or jump rings.

    These rings work great at clasp points. The inner diameter is small, but the AR is low, meaning they are surprizingly strong. The kerf is large on the steel rings, so they are very hard to close.

    Jens Pind is possible, but tight. (With copper rings, the weave is not flexible).
