I also look at home decorating books/shows, which give you hints of what colours work well together.
There is a show on pay tv called Colour Confidential. This lady has a colour wheel where you learn about colours and how they work together. It can even be used when choosing colours for jewellery making.
I am a beginner and I am looking forward to diving into making something.
